Explore our Programme for People and Planet. As an integrated mixed-use community, it will carry on and fulfill Expo’s founding vision to be an ecosystem to connect, create and innovate. More than 100 countries and 10 international organizations were expected to participate. It was the first time that a major international exhibition of this kind was hosted in a country from the former Soviet Union. Integration between shapes, design and contents is the sole expression of the values of sustainability and those of progress, reminding visitors of the awareness of this relationship. Transitioning into Expo City, the Expo 2020 Dubai site will live long after we close our doors at the end of March 2022. Preparation On November 22, 2012, Astana was chosen by the Bureau International des Expositions (BIE) as the venue to host Expo 2017. The scenography highlights the idea of reflection: a large kinetic installation in the middle of the Pavilion consisting of mirrored elements that welcomes and reflects a projection that tells the story of dialogue between the Principality of Monaco and the sea. The Pavilion told the story of the commitment made by the Principality of Monaco towards sustainable progress, in which the new paradigms of urban development are integrated with environmental protection. The concept that lies at the basis of the project conception is the city that is reflected in the sea and reveals the complex relationship between man and the environment, where the limit can be transformed into an opportunity of conscious growth. Astana Expo 2017, the International Exposition that took place from June through October 2017, has now transformed into a thriving post-expo legacy. Simmetrico was chosen by His Serene Highness, Prince Albert II of Monaco, as the winner of the international tender for the design, development and construction of the Monaco Pavilion at Astana Expo 2017. Astana, Kazakhstan, held the most recent Specialised Expo in 2017 while Dubai, United Arab Emirates hosted Expo 2020 (which was postponed to 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic). Astana (Kazakhstan), 10th June – 10th September 2017
